The Harris family are long-term supporters of the Epworth Hospital and have enjoyed being involved in the development of the Hospital’s facilities
The Susan Harris Paediatric Unit at Epworth Richmond
In 2016, Epworth HealthCare built a state-of-the-art 20 bed Paediatric Ward to create a welcoming environment for children and their families. Each of the rooms is specifically designed with children in mind which enables Epworth to provide the best practical care for young patients in a dedicated environment.
Every room in the Paediatric Ward supports the use of specialised paediatric equipment as well as providing a child-friendly and entertaining environment to aid in the recovery process.
“Just seeing the smile on a sick child’s face when they see their room now for the first time is priceless and to know that we have made the right choices to ensure both parents and children can be as comfortable and happy as possible in the hospital’s environment is a great feeling.”
Meredith Elliot, Nurse Unit Manager, Paediatrics.
Intensive Care Unit at Epworth Freemasons
Susan Harris supported Epworth Freemasons to expand the intensive care unit (ICU) and utilise state of the art facilities, equipment, and technology, expanded research and education capabilities, to enhance the care and experience for patients and their loved ones.
“The Harris family’s investment in equipment, technology and buildings at Epworth Freemasons ICU is critical to ensuring our staff and doctors have the best resources on hand to enable them to provide the best critical care to our patients.”
Nicole Waldron, Chief Operating Officer, Hospitals
Maternity Upgrade at Epworth Freemasons
The Harris family supported the redevelopment of the Maternity Unit to provide mothers and babies with the very best possible care and comfort before, during and after birth. The redevelopment included building a dedicated Maternity Theatre, a Holding and Recovery Bay, upgrades of the delivery suites and the Special Care Nursery and the postnatal maternity suites to create spacious, modern suites that provide a calm and relaxing space for families after birth.
Susan Harris worked with the Hospital to design and develop the new Susan Harris Learning Hub, to create a welcoming environment for expectant parents to attend birthing classes and education sessions throughout their pregnancy.
‘Thank you so much, Sue. We really appreciate your generosity. We’re a big family here at Epworth and you’re a part of it.”
Courtney, Epworth Freemasons Midwife
Scholarships
The Harris family support education and training opportunities throughout the projects the family funds.
Susan Harris has supported the education of more than 30 scholarships for Epworth HealthCare employees.
These scholarships improve the skills and knowledge Epworth’s staff to ensure Epworth can continue to provide exceptional care each and every day.
“My future goal aspirations prior to this scholarship were to complete a degree in wound care in which I could share my knowledge with the ward and improve outcomes for patients. Through this scholarship I have been able to commence my university course and continue my professional development with Epworth Healthcare.
No words can express how truly thankful I am to be given this generous scholarship to not only develop in my career, but to follow my dreams.”
